6-Week Possession Block (U12–U13)

Six weeks to develop a possession-based style for U12–U13 squads. From first-touch fundamentals through to playing out from the back under pressure. Each week builds passing quality, support angles, and the decision-making that makes possession football work.

📅How this block works

Run one focus per week across six weeks. Each week builds on the last, so by week six the concepts combine naturally in match play. Every week links to ready-to-run drills from the library — print the plan or share it to your team WhatsApp. Week six is always assessment: play, observe, and let the habits show.

Week 1

First touch and body shape

Possession starts with the touch. Teach receiving on the half-turn, scanning before the ball arrives, and opening the body to play forward.

Week 2

Short passing and support angles

Build the passing network. Teach support at 45 degrees, weight of pass, and the constant movement that creates passing options.

Week 3

Playing through the thirds

Move the ball with purpose from defence to attack. Introduce the idea of progression — not possession for its own sake.

Week 4

Possession under pressure

Add defenders. Rondos and possession games where players must keep the ball with opponents pressing.

Week 5

Switching play

Open up the pitch. Teach the switch — recognising when one side is crowded and moving the ball to space on the other.

Week 6

Match integration

Assessment week. Possession principles in a full game context. Look for natural support, scanning, and forward intent.
