Why this drill works

Three simultaneous 6v2 rondos that warm up adult squads technically and tactically in 12 minutes. The rondo format forces decision-making under pressure from the first touch of the session — no standing in lines, no passing drills. Sets the standard for the session that follows.

How to run it

  1. 6 players keep the ball from 2 defenders inside the square. Two-touch maximum.
  2. If defenders win it, the player who lost it swaps with a defender.
  3. Progression: reduce to one-touch maximum. Adults who train regularly will manage this for 2-minute bursts.
  4. After 6 minutes, progress to a 7v3 rondo (full squad split into groups). Bigger space (15×15m), three defenders.
  5. Coach circulates. Call out scans, body shape, support angles — not technique.
