Step-over and shoulder drop happen simultaneously — one movement

Why this drill works

The step-over is the most accessible skill move at U11-U13. The detail most miss: the step-over must be accompanied by a genuine shoulder fake, otherwise defenders don't buy it. This drill builds technique, shoulder fake, and acceleration as one movement.

How to run it

  1. Every player with a ball. Step-overs on spot: 10 right, 10 left, 10 alternating.
  2. Add movement: dribble toward a cone, step-over before it, accelerate away.
  3. Add shoulder drop: step-over right means right foot over ball, left foot plants with drop of left shoulder.
  4. 1v1 channel: attacker uses step-over to beat defender to end line.
  5. SSG bonus: goal scored after convincing step-over scores double.
