Why this drill works

The number call warm-up builds reaction speed and scanning habits. Every player has a number; the coach calls a number and that player must perform a specific action. The cognitive component makes this far more valuable than a simple dribbling circuit.

How to run it

  1. Mark a 20x15m grid. Every player with a ball, dribbling freely. Each player assigned a number.
  2. Coach randomly calls a number: that player dribbles to a cone and back.
  3. Progress: coach calls two numbers simultaneously.
  4. Add ODD or EVEN calls for group actions.
  5. Final 2 minutes: players call their own numbers on completion.
