The one cue that matters
Quick decisions in tight space
◆Why this drill works
Most coaches end sessions with 'a quick match'. This is a small upgrade with massive engagement returns: divide into 3–4 balanced teams, run a quick round-robin, track the league table on the tournament builder tool. Goalscorers go on the Top Scorers leaderboard. Suddenly the last 25 minutes have stakes — kids talk about it all week, parents take photos of the table, the same kid keeps asking 'are we doing the cup again next week?' The footballing benefit is identical (more SSG minutes) but the engagement is 10×.

▶How to run it
- BEFORE the session — open the squad balance checker and tournament builder bookmarks.
- Last 25–30 minutes of session:
- 1. Use squad balance checker — pick 3 or 4 teams from your players.
- 2. Open tournament builder — enter team names (let kids choose silly names).
- 3. Generate round-robin fixtures.
- 4. Run each match for 4 minutes (3 minutes for U7).
- 5. Enter scores between matches — the league table updates live.
- 6. Use the goalscorer dropdown for each match — kids love seeing the Golden Ball update.
- 7. Final match = 'cup final' — winner gets to lead the team huddle next week.
