Why this drill works

The kick-off happens at least twice per match, more after goals. Most grassroots teams play it with zero intent. A rehearsed kick-off can produce a shot on goal in under 8 passes. This drill installs two routines: possession-build and press-and-win-back.

How to run it

  1. Routine A: CF passes back to midfielder who switches play immediately. Team spreads, maintains possession.
  2. Routine B: After a goal, kick-off team presses immediately. CF presses the centre-back.
  3. Practise both from real kick-off position. Every player knows their role in each.
  4. Add full passive opposing team.
  5. Name both routines: BUILD for possession. PRESS for counter-press kick-off.
