Why this drill works

The fly keeper (the keeper joining the attack as an outfield player to create a 5v4 overload) is futsal's power play — used when chasing a game. It's advanced and risky (an empty goal behind) but devastatingly effective. This drill introduces the concept and the basic rotations.

How to run it

  1. The keeper pushes up to join the attack, creating a 5v4 outfield overload.
  2. Players rotate around the keeper-as-outfielder, using the extra man to keep possession and create chances.
  3. Emphasise patience — the overload is about working a clear chance, not forcing it.
  4. Defenders try to win the ball (a turnover means an empty net) — raising the stakes.
  5. Practise recovering quickly if possession is lost, the keeper sprinting back.
