Anticipating and reacting first to the rebound

Why this drill works

Futsal keepers parry a lot of low, hard shots they can't hold — and the rebounds fall in a crowded box. Reacting fastest to the second ball wins goals. This drill trains the alertness and quick finishing that converts rebounds.

How to run it

  1. A player shoots; a keeper parries; runners react to the rebound.
  2. Finishers must read the parry and pounce on the second ball.
  3. Emphasise anticipation — moving toward the likely rebound before it lands.
  4. Vary the original shot so rebounds fall in different areas.
  5. Add competition: first to react and finish scores.

?Frequently asked questions

Why is second-ball finishing important in futsal?
Futsal keepers face many close-range, low, hard shots they can only parry. Those rebounds fall in a packed area near goal. Teams that react fastest to the second ball convert a meaningful share of their goals.
