Sole Roll Foundation — futsal court view
The one cue that matters
The sole sits lightly on top of the ball, not stamping down
◆Why this drill works
The sole of the foot is to futsal what the inside of the foot is to football — the primary surface for control. The low-bounce futsal ball sits up to the sole perfectly, and mastering the sole roll is the gateway to every futsal skill. This drill builds the fundamental feel: rolling the ball under control with the sole, the foundation U8s carry through their whole futsal development.

▶How to run it
- Every player with a ball in a marked area. Roll the ball forward and back under the sole of one foot, keeping it close.
- Switch feet every 30 seconds. The standing foot stays balanced; the rolling foot stays light on top of the ball.
- Add direction changes: roll the ball forward, then drag it back and roll the other way.
- On the coach's call, players freeze with the ball trapped under the sole — develops the instant stop futsal demands.
- Finish with a roll-and-move: roll the ball, take it somewhere, stop it under the sole on the whistle.

?Frequently asked questions
Why the sole and not the inside of the foot?
Futsal is played in tight space on a hard floor. The sole gives instant stopping, close control, and the ability to move the ball in any direction without it running away — far more useful than the inside-foot push that suits grass football.
