⏱Session timeline
▦Session blocks
Tag game warm-up
8 minPaired tag in a 20x15 grid. Both players hold one end of a bib — they must stay connected while trying to tag other pairs. Gets bodies moving and minds switched on.
4v1 possession rondo
10 minSimple 4v1 in a 10x10 square. Outside players keep the ball from the central defender. No instruction beyond 'keep it.' Coach observes body shape — are players facing the next pass before the ball arrives?
Possession gates game
15 min4v4 on 20x15. Instead of goals, teams score by dribbling through small cone gates (3 gates per end). To score through a gate, the player must receive a pass first — can't dribble through. Rewards possession and passing.
Free 4v4
10 minStandard small-sided game. No rules. Coach observes how much of the possession habit has embedded without prompts.
Walk-down
2 minOne positive per player on the way back. Quick, specific. Done.
◆What you'll need from yourself
Patience with the 4v1 rondo — resist coaching every mistake. Observe first. Intervene once.
!Common problems
Players refusing to pass in the gates game and trying to dribble through instead. Remind: pass first, then dribble through.
