▦Session blocks

1

Sharks and minnows warm-up

8 min

All players with balls in a 20x15 grid. One player without a ball is the shark — tries to kick balls out. Players whose ball leaves the grid do 5 sole taps and re-enter.

2

Count the passes

10 min

4v4 on a small pitch with no goals. Teams count consecutive passes aloud. Any score of 5+ earns a point. Develops the habit of passing to keep possession.

3

3-pass before goal

12 min

Standard 4v4 with two mini goals. Rule: must complete 3 passes before shooting. This is hard for U8 — celebrate any goal that follows 3 passes regardless of quality.

4

Free game

12 min

No rules. Pure fun. Coach stays quiet.

5

Celebration circle

3 min

Each player names one pass they are proud of from today. Keep it quick.

◆What you'll need from yourself

Resist the urge to shout 'keep it' constantly. Let the game teach. Coach the moments, not every touch.

!Common problems

Players still kicking long even with the 3-pass rule. The rule produces confusion first, then compliance. Give it 5 minutes.
