U7 First Session of the Season
First Saturday of a U7 season — calm, structured, every kid touches the ball constantly.
▦Session blocks
Late-Arrival Square
A simple square passing and movement warm-up that lets players join in gradually as they arrive, so nobody is left standing still waiting for a full group.
Dribble Traffic Light
Players dribble freely inside a grid, reacting to the coach's colour calls — green to go, red to stop, amber to slow down — to sharpen close control and listening skills inside a simple game.
One Ball Each — Touch Variations
Every player has their own ball and works through a short sequence of touches — inside foot, outside foot, sole rolls — at their own pace, maximising ball contact time for a young group.
First-Touch Gates
Players dribble through small cone gates scattered across the area, taking a controlled touch through each gate rather than rushing through at full pace.
3v3 Game (Future Fit U7 Format)
A small-sided game in the format U7 football is actually played in, giving every player far more touches, more 1v1 duels, and more goal involvement than a bigger-sided game would allow.
End-of-Session Mini-Tournament
A short mini-tournament to finish on a high — plenty of goals, plenty of games, and a positive memory to bring back next week.
◆What you'll need from yourself
Clear demonstrations and high energy. Keep the session moving with minimal queuing, and reinforce one or two key coaching points rather than overloading players with information.
!Common problems
Players standing in queues (set up enough stations to keep everyone active) and the session running too long on one activity (keep blocks tight and move on while engagement is high).
