Counter-press activation

10 min

5v2 rondo. On winning possession, two players press immediately (counter-press). The rondo continues from the new position. Trains the instinctive press habit before the session's tactical content.

Press shape walkthrough

12 min

Walk through pressing shape in slow motion — no ball. When ball goes wide, who presses, who covers, who holds. Three scenarios: wide right, wide left, high through-ball. Walk, then jog, then 75%.

7v7 with structured press

28 min

7v7. Defending team earns 2pts for any turnover in the opposition half using the structured press. Earns 1pt for a turnover anywhere. Standard goal = 1pt. Coach calls out moments where the shape held or broke.

Walk through one press that worked and one that didn't. What made the difference?

What you'll need from yourself

Insistence on the shape walkthrough even when players want to skip to the game. The walkthrough is how the press gets installed — without it the game just produces chaos.

!Common problems

Players pressing in ones rather than the shape. Stop the drill. Walk it again. The individual pressing habit is the default; the team press is what needs training.
