The one cue that matters
Crisp, firm passes along the floor
◆Why this drill works
Wing play is under-coached at grassroots — most U13 sessions are obsessed with central play and rondos. But the wide channels are where space is most often available, and crossing-and-finishing is one of the most reliable goal-creation patterns. This drill isolates the pattern: ball moves into a wide channel, player drives down the line, crosses, two strikers attack near and far post simultaneously. Three reps per pair before rotating wings.
▦The drill in three phases
1Setup
Starting positions — players, zones and equipment in place.
2Action
Movement begins — players run, dribble and create the pattern.
3Finish
The end action — pass, shot or outcome the drill builds toward.

▶How to run it
- Coach plays ball into wide-player on either flank.
- Wide player takes one touch forward, drives down the channel.
- At the byline / cone marker, crosses (firm, into the corridor 6 yards from goal).
- Two strikers attack: one to near post, one to far post.
- First-time finish if possible. Reset, alternate sides.
- Each player rotates: wing → striker → back of queue. Everybody gets every role.
