The one cue that matters
Scanning before receiving to know the next option
◆Why this drill works
Players are numbered 1–10 and pass in sequence using inside-of-foot passes in a 20×15 grid. Simple, fast-moving, and keeps every player scanning for their next pass. Builds scanning and passing simultaneously without any tactical complexity.
▦The drill in three phases
1Setup
Starting positions — players, zones and equipment in place.
2Action
Movement begins — players run, dribble and create the pattern.
3Finish
The end action — pass, shot or outcome the drill builds toward.

▶How to run it
- Ball starts at player 1, who passes to player 2. Player 2 passes to 3 etc. Multiple balls circulating simultaneously.
- Players move after passing — don't stand still.
- Progression: call a number to skip ('miss out 3!') — players must adapt.
- Progression: add a defender who tries to intercept. First player to complete a full sequence without interception wins.
