Dribble Traffic Light — full pitch view
The one cue that matters
Change of pace to beat the defender after the move
◆Why this drill works
U6–U8 players are not ready for static technique drills. They need movement, repetition, and cognitive load disguised as play. Traffic Light gives them all three: they dribble in all directions, and the coach shouts a colour ('red' = stop with foot on ball, 'amber' = slow walking dribble, 'green' = fast dribble, 'blue' = sit down). Stops, starts, and direction changes are constant. By session 4, every kid in the squad can stop a ball under their foot — the foundational close-control skill.

2Action
Movement begins — players run, dribble and create the pattern.
3Finish

▶How to run it
- Every player inside the square with their own ball.
- Coach calls colours in random order:
- GREEN = fast dribble (run with the ball).
- AMBER = slow walking dribble (small touches, head up).
- RED = stop with foot on top of ball.
- BLUE = sit down on the ball, hands in lap.
- Add 'PURPLE = nutmeg the coach' for engagement bonus.
- Run 6 minutes, stop, water break, run 4 more.
