Why this drill works

When possession is lost in futsal, instant defensive recovery is vital — the small court means a slow reaction is a goal conceded. This drill trains the habit of sprinting back into defensive shape the instant the ball is lost.

How to run it

  1. A team attacks; on losing the ball (coach's call or turnover), they must recover instantly.
  2. Players sprint back to reform the defensive diamond and protect the goal.
  3. The transition from attacking to defending must be immediate.
  4. The team that won the ball counters, testing the recovery.
  5. Track how often the team recovers its shape before conceding a chance.
