The one cue that matters
Getting down quickly to low shots

Why this drill works

Most futsal shots are low and hard from close range — there's no time for them to rise in the tight space. The futsal keeper must be brilliant at getting down fast to low shots, often with the legs and body as much as the hands. This drill builds the low shot-stopping technique.

How to run it

  1. The keeper faces shots fired low from around the penalty area.
  2. The keeper gets down quickly, leading with the hands and getting the body behind the ball.
  3. Vary the shot placement: low to each side, low and central.
  4. Increase the pace and reduce the warning as the keeper improves.
  5. Add the 'spread' save for close-range shots — making the body big and low.

?Frequently asked questions

Why are futsal shots so often low?
The court is small and the goal is low, so there's rarely time or space for a shot to rise. Most finishes are fired low and hard along the floor — so low shot-stopping is the futsal keeper's most-used skill.
