Why this drill works

How to run it

  1. A defender presses an attacker who has the ball in a marked area.
  2. The defender approaches at an angle that shows the attacker toward the sideline.
  3. The press is controlled — close the space, don't lunge.
  4. Add a second defender covering behind the press.
  5. Progress to 2v2 with coordinated pressing and covering.

?Frequently asked questions

Should grassroots futsal teams press high?
In moderation. The small court rewards winning the ball back quickly, but reckless pressing leaves gaps. Teach controlled pressing with cover — press the ball, but never leave the goal exposed.
