Why this drill works

Most defensive moments in futsal come down to a 2v2 in a tiny area. Defending these well — pressing and covering, communicating, never both going to the ball — is a core futsal skill. This drill isolates the 2v2 to build the partnership.

How to run it

  1. Two defenders versus two attackers in a 10x8m grid with a small goal.
  2. One defender presses the ball; the other covers and marks the second attacker.
  3. Defenders communicate: who presses, who covers, when to switch.
  4. Attackers use combinations and rotation to try to create a chance.
  5. Swap roles regularly. Track clean defensive stops.

?Frequently asked questions

What's the golden rule defending 2v2?
Never let both defenders go to the ball. One presses the carrier, one covers the space and the second attacker. The moment both commit to the ball, the attackers have a free player and a goal.
