⏱Session timeline
▦Session blocks
Set-piece activation
0 minThrow-in repetitions from both sides. Both the Tower (high throw-in to head) and the Loop (short throw-in to feet then overlap). Call the name before each rep — this is the discipline habit you're building. Everyone takes 4 throw-ins.
Corner routines
0 minNear-post corner (one runner to near post): 5 reps. Far-post corner (striker peeling to far post, second runner late into near post): 5 reps. Short corner (ball played to supporting player, then whipped in): 5 reps. Passive defence only. Name each routine before each corner.
Free kick
0 minOne direct free-kick routine and one indirect. Direct: wall, shooter picks a corner, strikes. Indirect: wall, layoff to runner, shot. Both taken from the same range (22 yards). Every player shoots at least once.
Live game with set-piece rules
0 min7v7 game. Rule: every set piece must be a named routine, called before execution. Unnamed set piece gives possession to opposition. Coach enforces strictly for the first 5 minutes, then backs off and observes. Did it stick?
Set-piece review
0 minWalk through all four routine names. Test the squad: coach points to a player, asks them to name the corner routine or the throw-in. Stick to the name — they'll remember it on Saturday.
◆What you'll need from yourself
Clear demonstrations and high energy. Keep the session moving with minimal queuing, and reinforce one or two key coaching points rather than overloading players with information.
!Common problems
Players standing in queues (set up enough stations to keep everyone active) and the session running too long on one activity (keep blocks tight and move on while engagement is high).
