Split into attacking and defending units. Defending team walks through press shape in slow motion — when the ball goes wide, the front three steps to press, midfield shifts, striker covers. No resistance. Just shape.
4v4 in a 25×20 grid. Rule: on losing possession, the team has 5 seconds to win it back. Time visible on the stopwatch — call it out. Teams that don't press drop deeper and start again.
9v9 on two-thirds pitch. Defending team earns a bonus point (2pts) for any turnover won in the opposition half. Coach calls the trigger moment: 'Back pass — go!' Debriefs every 5 minutes.
Full pitch. Press rules apply for the first 5 seconds after losing possession, then drop into shape. Bonus for turnovers in the final third (3pts). Drop into shape if 5s expires (0pts but no penalty).
Walk through three moments from the session — one successful press, one failed press, one good recovery after a failed press. Focus on what changed between them.
Clear demonstrations and high energy. Keep the session moving with minimal queuing, and reinforce one or two key coaching points rather than overloading players with information.
Players standing in queues (set up enough stations to keep everyone active) and the session running too long on one activity (keep blocks tight and move on while engagement is high).
