Why this drill works

Match-realistic shot-stopping requires fast reset between saves — a goalkeeper who takes 3 seconds to recover after a diving save will be beaten by the rebound. This drill compresses the time between shots to force rapid reset, side-to-side movement, and reflex saves rather than set saves. The three-feeder format means the GK never knows which direction the next shot comes from, training genuine reactions rather than anticipated saves.

How to run it

  1. GK sets position. Three feeders at 8 yards — left, central, right.
  2. Sequence 1: F1 (left) shoots, GK saves. Immediately F2 (central) shoots. Immediately F3 (right) shoots.
  3. GK must reset to set position between each shot — no staying down after a save.
  4. After one L-C-R sequence: 10 second rest. Repeat 5 times.
  5. Progression: feeders don't announce — GK must read body shape to anticipate direction.
  6. Track saves per sequence. Target: 3+ saves per 3-shot sequence by end of drill.
